UGANDA: WHY IS GOD NOT ANSWERING MUSEVENI'S COVID-19 PRAYERS?

By CHANGE OF GUARDS

"A certain Ugandan came to me and told me that God had told him in a vision that I should organize National Prayers, scientifically organized, for God to deliver us from COVID-19."

Museveni - August 2020.

He declared August 29 a national holiday for nationwide prayers where he hosted religious leaders at State House for prayers.

Around March 2020, Uganda's military dictator took advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to unreasonably declare a total lockdown of almost every sector save for the security services. His aim was to curtail political dissent and freedom of assembly and movement. He used the lockdown to plunder the national coffers under the guise of providing humanitarian food and health relief that proved disastrous. By the time the first COVID-19 death was reported in July, the country had reportedly registered 1,079 infections and 971 recoveries. He had all along been withholding reports of fatalities in the hope that he would postpone the early 2021 general elections. In an exclusive interview with NBS Television in May he described an electoral process amidst the COVID-19 pandemic as madness;

"To have an election when the virus is still here........it will be madness"

At the that time, the country had reportedly registered 121 infections but with no single death. However, after realizing that if the general elections were to be postponed, he would constitutionally be required to handover office to the Speaker of Parliament upon expiry of his term of office, he opted to conduct the ongoing electoral process. Indeed, as he had predicted, the ongoing 'madness' is claiming more lives than COVID-19.

Driven by the disappointment he was suffering from Tanzania's indifference to his wishes for a total lockdown, he made Tanzanian truck drivers scapegoats for much of the spread of the virus in Uganda. His propaganda machinery led by Andrew Mwenda swung into action with concocted narratives of the dire COVID-19 situation in Tanzania. He instituted strict testing protocols at Uganda's entry points with special focus on the Tanzanian border of Mutukula before sending back 167 nationals of neighboring countries after they tested positive in Uganda by mid May. However, Tanzania's Magufuli had stood his ground. In April he declared three days of national prayers for God's protection and healing at a time his country had registered 94 infections and four deaths. Around late April Tanzania stopped reporting on the COVID-19 situation when the figures for infections were standing at 509 and 18 deaths. This was after the government expressed doubt on the efficiency of the testing kits that were used in its laboratories.

On June 1 all Universities and institutions of higher learning resumed normal business followed shortly after by all other educational institutions including kindergartens. Around the same time, the suspension of domestic and international flights was lifted before waiving the mandatory quarantine for visitors. In July President Magufuli declared a Tanzania free of COVID-19 during a meeting with Regional Commissioners;

"We decided to pray to God to save us from Corona virus. God has answered our prayers. Tanzania is safe and this is evident by the many airlines that are bringing tourists. Our enemies will speak a lot, but the reality remains to be the at Tanzania is safe and that is why none of us here is putting on a mask. Does it mean we are not afraid of dying? No, it's because Corona has been eliminated."

Shortly after, in the same regard he addressed a church congregation;

"I want to thank Tanzanians of all Faiths. We have been praying, fasting and asking God to save us from the pandemic that has affected our country and the world. God has answered us."

Since then., COVID-19 is history in Tanzania and life is reportedly moving normally.

Consequently, Museveni backed off Tanzania and instead adopted President Magufuli's position of praying to God. That is when he declared August 29 as the COVID-19 National Day of Prayers. In September he travelled to Tanzania for talks over the crude oil pipeline.

Around the sane time, Air Tanzania resumed its two weekly flights to Entebbe in Uganda. Air Uganda reciprocated by resuming its three weekly flights to Tanzania. Museveni allowed only finalists for primary, secondary and tertiary institutions to resume in October and obviously, the students from Tanzania who attend Uganda's private schools must have travelled to Uganda. In November buses for the Kampala - Dar Es Salaam via Mutukula border route resumed. Interestingly, by that time the GeneXpert machine for testing COVID-19 that had been installed at the Mutukula border had been grounded four months earlier. Around the same time Museveni travelled to Tanzania for Magufuli's swearing in ceremony. Just recently Uganda's U-17 AFCON Zonal Qualifiers, the Hippos were in Tanzania for over two weeks.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, Museveni has held three rounds of national prayers at State House with most religious leaders in attendance. During the May prayers, Museveni appealed to everyone to "pray with us as we seek God's intervention to end this COVID-19 pandemic here and the rest of the world."

During the December 11 National Thanks Giving prayers, his wife repeated and prayed:

"Uganda's is testament to your faithfulness. Everywhere we have called out to you, you have answered us. Today we are faced with a new enemy in the form of the Corona Virus, we repent before you today, Oh Lord we pray that in your judgement you remember mercy "

Most intriguing is that unlike Tanzania's Magufuli who prayed once and God answered his prayers, the sane God has not responded to Museveni's repeated prayers. Instead, the COVID-19 situation is surging in correspondence to the progress of the election campaigns and the electoral process in general. The so-called COVID-19 SOPs are used to curtail the opposition freedoms and rights while being selectively and brutally enforced. This puzzle was settled by Bishop Joshua Lwere who was the Preacher during the August 29 COVID-19 prayers;

"We are rebellious and disobedient, God does not work with us. We just do our part so that God can his part. As a nation, we must have the the ears to to hear what he wants us to do."

Therefore, God cannot answer Museveni's prayers simply because he is rebellious and disobedient. One one hand he treats the pandemic as God sent against his political opponents while at the same time asking him to take it away.

INFORMATION IS POWER AND THE PROBLEM OF UGANDA IS MUSEVENISM
