Described as one of the pioneer best commandos, Museveni's Maj. Noel Mwesigye who commanded his SFC's Commando Unit was shot dead last Sunday night at the gate of his house in Masinga Village, Kikyusa in Luwero District. The yet to be identified assailants who were travelling on a motorcycle are said to have had a physical fight with him before he was overpowered and shot dead. It is further reported that they even took off with his pistol. It's not clear if the assailants used his own pistol to shoot him or they had their own arms. In the event of the latter scenario, why would they have bothered to engage in a physical confrontation!!! Whatever the case, the said assailants must be more skilled in commando operations than Maj. Mwesigye was. It is also more likely that they attended the same training session with him. However, there were reports that after the murder, the assailants carried some robberies in the neighborhood. If that is true, either the said assailants are some new organized group with specific targets or are state security agents who carried out some robberies to disguise the motive. The latter scenario will call for the interrogation as to why Noel Mwesigye was expelled from SFC before he spent many years on Katebe (undeployed) and his loyalty. The killing could also be a government ploy to prepare ground for clamping down on the renewed Baganda nationalism as had been the case in Kasese.
In 2017, Mwesigye beat up into a comma a one Peter Kirunda (photo attached) a referee under the Uganda Rugby Union after Kirunda accused Mwesigye of taking photos of the latter's car. The matter was swept under the carpet. Equally intriguing is the fact that Mwesigye was shot at the gate of his home in Luwero but was buried in Sembabule. Obviously he was one of the armed and powerful land grabbers in Luwero who had even established his home there. For obvious reasons, they even fear for their remains to be buried on the illegally acquired land and he had to be buried in Sembabule.
As a senior army officer, didn't he have escorts or it was the same case as it had been with the slain Col. Abiriga!!!
Watch the space.
