UGANDA: Why Museveni arrested @HeBobiWine

WHY MUSEVENI ARRESTED BOBI WINE

CHANGE OF GUARDS - On April 29, 2019 Uganda's popular musician and Member of Parliament, Hon. Bobi Wine (Robert Kyagulanyi) was arrested and charged with illegal protests before being remanded to the country's maximum security prison Luzira. The said protests allegedly took place in July last year over the draconian mobile money tax.

Earlier on April 22, 2019, he had been placed under house arrest after his Easter Monday concert was blocked citing non compliance with safety standards. In both instances, his supporters attempted to riot but were brutally contained by heavy deployment os security goons.

Hon. Bobi Wine is eyeing the presidency come 2021 general elections. He is appealing to the majority of unemployed urban youth. Following recent events in Algeria and Sudan, Hon. Bobi Wine and his People Power platform are considering redirecting their focus from the 2021 Election Agenda to Action Now. On the other hand, Museveni whose 33 years hold on power is proving to be a menace and getting more determined to keep going or at best to be succeeded by his son, Gen. Muhoozi.

By blocking Bobi Wine's concerts, repeatedly arresting and detaining him with impunity, Museveni is aiming at proving to Ugandans that they can't challenge his hold on power through street protests. Indeed, as soon as Bobi Wine is cornered, the crowds of his supporters would simply melt in thin air. They only maintained sustained verbal attacks on social media. Museveni also wanted to determine how organised is Bobi Wine's People Power platform in sustaining protests, if any. At the same time, he had wanted t give them a deterrent heavy beating.

However, Museveni is also mindful of the fact that mass protests are the biggest potential threat to his hold on power. He is only thriving on the lack of organization on the part of those seeking change. Otherwise, with proper planning and coordination, concurrent countrywide protests can make his regime crumble within a few hours.

INFORMATION IS POWER AND THE PROBLEM OF UGANDA IS MUSEVENISM
